There’s nothing quite like summer movie season. Every year, a few films are released from June to August that become part of what you could argue are a class (i.e. - the Summer Movie Class of ‘24) and they get their place in the Movie Hall of Fame, forever associated with long nights, sunshine, and an overall good time.
Then there’s a few films that are not just first-ballot Movie Hall of Famers, but generational films - crème de la crème hits that, both through how awesome they are, and how they have molded pop culture, can be considered “season definers.” And since we are kicking off our first full Summer Movie Season here at Popcorn Reef, this June we're starting with what we’ll argue is the film that defines the summer popcorn flick. That’s right. On June 18th, we’re back at The Adams Ave Theater to present CON AIR.
If you’ve never seen this film before, we can’t do anything for you. The best we can advise is for you to stay strapped in until June 18th so you can experience it theatrically with a big crowd, because that’s exactly what it demands. CON AIR is a bad ass action movie of epic proportions, incredibly directed by Simon West. It’s got one of the best all-star casts of all time, headlined by unforgettable performances by Nicolas Cage as Cameron Poe and John Malkovich as Cyrus The Virus. It’s peak Jerry Bruckheimer, who brings all of of his wisdom about movie magic front and center. It’s patriotic in a genuine and unabashed way. And above all else, it’s still here to remind us, 27 years later, just how enjoyable a movie can be when the focus is on making a film fun for an audience.
On June 18th, buckle up. We can’t wait to do this show.
CON AIR Synopsis:
