For our very first screening at the historic Adams Ave Theater in Normal Heights, we've decided to do a totally radical throwback double feature with the underrated SoCal culture-drenched light horror/comedy SURF II, and the all-time home video classic THE TOXIC AVENGER. Plus, we've got plenty of vintage trailers to show between the films to make the program complete.

The space we have at the Adams Ave Theater to project the films onto is absolutely huge, and the open nature of the seating and the snack bar will create a unique movie-going experience that we are beyond thrilled about. The ass-kicking concert quality sound system is a major plus too. We can say this without any worry of overhyping things - we guarantee you'll never get a chance to see SURF II or THE TOXIC AVENGER in an atmosphere like this again.

If you're nerds like us, you're already familiar with both of these films, but in case you're new to the world of 80's trash, please read on to learn more about what we've got in store for you on the 22nd.

SURF II - Released in 1984 - Directed by Randall M. Badat

***If you were wondering - there is no SURF 1! The title was supposed to be a joke, but the joke was on the marketing department when the film underperformed in theaters upon its initial release.***

Surfing is the only thing to do for high school students Chuck (a young Eric Stoltz in his first starring role) and Bob, who are in preparation for the big surf competition. However, their fathers, sales reps for a new soda named Buzzz Cola, disapprove of surfing as a whole.

Everything is going swell until the area’s surfing population start getting kidnapped by Menlo (Eddie Deezen - GREASE, WARGAMES), a vengeful nerd turned mad scientist, with a particular vengeance aimed at surfers. Using Buzzz Cola, Menlo has begun turning surfers into brain dead zombies, with the aid of his assistant, Sparkle. Can Chuck and Bob thwart his evil master plan in time to save the surfing competition?

THE TOXIC AVENGER - Released in 1984 - Directed by Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz

THE TOXIC AVENGER stands with PINK FLAMINGOS and THE EVIL DEAD as one of the most gleefully offensive "midnight movies" of the twentieth century. With a remake starring Peter Dinklage being released in theaters later this year, now is a perfect time to revisit the original.

Among the residents of Tromaville is Melvin, a nerdy janitor at the local health club. A gang of thugs devise a cruel hoax that goes horribly wrong and Melvin is cast through a third story window into a vat of toxic waste. However, an unexpected metamorphosis takes place. As the chemicals take hold of his body, Melvin turns into the Toxic Avenger, doer of good, and brutal mauler of evil! The excitement is non-stop as Toxie sets out to single handedly wipe out the forces of evil that torment the people of Tromaville.
