A FREE SCREENING, co-presented by The Casual Company, and hosted on the Fourth Floor of The Tenth Avenue Arts Center downtown (the elevator is currently broken, see below for details.)

Tickets are limited to two per person, and we are over-extending invitations to ensure a full house. Doors will open at 6:30, and feel free to line up outside the venue starting at 6 PM.

At Popcorn Reef University, you’ll be treated to the deepest of deep cuts from the world of genre film. You’ll learn how maverick auteurs leveraged unique opportunities to create some of the wildest expressions of cinema throughout the years. And if you’re lucky, you’ll also learn a thing or two about yourself after emerging from an insane cinematic ride you might not have known you were ready for.

On Wednesday, July 2nd, join us as we re-introduce you to our Popcorn Reef University series. This free screening series is designed to take you to places you might not have known existed in cinema before. We’re keeping the title we’re showing a secret before it hits the screen, but don’t worry, it's going to be an epic evening.

Let us take you on a journey to the wonderful world of Ozploitation. “What is Ozploitation?” you may ask. Well, off the bat, it’s not movies about the exploitation of Australian people, just so we’re clear. Simply, Ozploitation films are exploitation (or Grindhouse) movies made by folks from Australia. In the 70s and 80s, much like in Italy and in the Philippines, Australia had a robust infrastructure in place to produce films. Ambitious auteurs capitalized on this to create wild, intense, and crazy genre films that they would then export to audiences worldwide. The result were no-holds barred, uncompromising visions that also, without most folks realizing it at the time, brought the unique voice of Australian culture into the homes of millions of Americans.

For this upcoming show, we’re bringing you a classic example of one of those visions. We’re not going to tell you what it is, but we will say, it’s a summer movie through and through, and it’s also one of the horniest movies to ever come out of Australia. FYI, it’s not a horror movie, so don’t come expecting to be scared.

On July 2nd, join us. Even though this is our version of a University, this is going to be one of most over-the-top experiences we’ve ever presented at Popcorn Reef, and we hope you’re ready for it.
