If you haven’t guessed by now, we take summer seriously here at Popcorn Reef, and to kick the season off, we’ve got one hell of a wave coming your way.
On May 17th at the historic Adams Ave Theater, join us as we screen a pair of the coolest West Coast myths ever committed to celluloid, with the creators of both films in the house as our first-ever guests at Popcorn Reef!
Help us welcome writer/director W. Peter Iliff (PATRIOT GAMES, VARSITY BLUES) and writer/director Rick King (THE KILLING TIME, HOT SHOT) as we break down their two incredible collaborations from the early 90s, POINT BREAK and PRAYER OF THE ROLLERBOYS!
One is an undisputed classic that defined an era of pop culture, and the other is a criminally underseen cult film that most of your cult film friends haven’t caught yet. What both films share is an authenticity and a love for the spirit of Southern California that has rarely been nailed as purely on-screen anywhere else.
Join us as we sit down with Mr. Iliff and Mr. King between the films for a Q&A where we’ll dive into where their inspiration came from, what the filming process was like for both movies, and how it’s felt to see the characters they created inspire multiple generations of film fans.
On May 17th, little hand says it’s time to rock and roll. Join us for one of the baddest ass film nights San Diego has ever seen.
Schedule:
Doors: 6:30 PM
POINT BREAK Screening: 7 PM sharp
Q&A: 9:10-9:30 PM
PRAYER OF THE ROLLERBOYS Screening: 9:30-11:05 PM
