Last summer, when we were first getting this going, we definitely did some cool stuff at Popcorn Reef. But for a movie series that’s all about the spectacle of movie magic AND Southern California sunshine, you could argue that we missed some opportunities. Summer should kinda be our time, right?

That will change this year, and we’re kicking things off in a giant way on May 22nd on the giant main stage of The Tenth Avenue Arts Center. Join us for our Pre-Summer Kick-Off Party, featuring a double bill of what we’ll argue are the two best jungle adventure cannibal exploitation movies of all time - EMANUELLE AND THE LAST CANNIBALS and DOCTOR BUTCHER M.D.

If you’ve never actually seen one of these “cannibal movies” before, come ready. They were staples of the 42nd Street Grindhouse circuit in NYC for an obvious reason: moreso than any other exploitation subgenre, they provide the hardest-hitting visceral violence and gore, over-the-top sexual content, and gross “can you believe we’re really seeing this?” cheap thrills that money can buy. And for the very low low price of $16, you can get a crash course on how to get your shit rocked with us on May 22nd. Seriously, if you think you’ve seen some crazy movies before, let’s see what you think after you emerge from this experience.

But that’s not all!

We're making some major changes to our movie nights at The Tenth, and we're excited to share them with you. Too tired to stay for the second feature? No problem. We've pushed things back earlier. The first feature will start at 6 now, and you'll be out of the building by 9-9:30 if you stay for the whole thing.

Because of this, we're also pushing back our door-open time to 5 PM. And we're going to be a bit more organized with our pre-show hangout. From now on, anyone who is doing anything cool and creative-related in San Diego will be welcome to bring their stuff and set up at our tables in a dedicated pre-show room (or on the rooftop terrace, weather permitting) at The Tenth before the show.

Do you have a creative business you're trying to get the word out about? Are you a filmmaker, and you're trying to build some buzz around your new project? Do you have a podcast that you want to start promoting? Please contact us and you're welcome to come showcase your stuff, free of charge. The pinnacle of Joe D'Amato's BLACK EMANUELLE series, in our eyes. Photojournalist Emanuelle (Laura Gemser) is joined by an anthropologist, two female missionary workers and a treacherous hunter's party in a search for an Amazon cannibal tribe long thought extinct.

The M.D. stands for "Medical Deviate!" After a series of bizarre cannibalistic killings in New York City, a sexy anthropologist and the investigating detective visit an island of cannibals and find a mad doctor creating zombies.

-Doors will open at 5:00 PM for our Pre-Show Hangout, and the films will start on the main stage screen at 6:00 PM

-Soft drinks, along with candy, chips, cookies, and crackers will be available for purchase during the show. Feel free to bring in outside food and drink. Hodad's and Pokez are within a block of the venue and are both great options.

-If you are visibly intoxicated or under the influence of drugs, we cannot allow you into the venue. Thanks for your understanding.

-There will be no delivery of tickets via shipping or email - we'll simply have your name on the list at the door (plus however many tickets you buy). Please bring your ID for verification purposes to check in. We can check in partial parties too, so if you're buying for multiple people and you're arriving at different times, don't worry about it.
