Popcorn Reef's REEF RESTORATION NIGHT series celebrates the true contemporary heroes of retro cinema - the independent home video labels that work tirelessly to preserve, restore, and rescue deep cuts of cinema and subsequently issue amazing new digital restorations of these films on Blu-ray and UHD.

At REEF RESTORATION NIGHT, we're rolling out the red carpet to give these flicks the second premiere they deserve on the big screen, and to highlight the lord's work that independent home video labels are putting in to preserve the spirit of cinema for generations to come.

For the first official edition of Reef Restoration Night, we wanted to go big, so we picked a pair of films that will fill you to the brim with some Texas-Style heat on a hot August night. "Texas-style," you say? Let's elaborate. Because it's not every day that we'd dare pair an Italian trash-fest from Joe D'Amato with a very salient and politically-charged film that moved us as much as DEEP IN THE HEART did when we watched Fun City Editions' brilliant new release earlier this year. But these films have some interesting things in common. They were both made in 1983 and they’re both set in Texas. Yet, curiously enough, they were both made by European filmmakers (D'Amato and Tony Garnett from the UK, respectively.) Why the obsession with Texas across the pond? When you watch them, you'll probably be able to figure it out.

Let's put it this way. When you watch the insanely over-the-top and macho-fueled 2020 TEXAS GLADIATORS, you might be screaming, "America! Fuck yeah!" And then when you stick around for the reality-grounded DEEP IN THE HEART, which was made after Mr. Garnett spent some time in the US and was horrified by gun control laws, you might be covering your face saying, "America. Oh God!" That's where film can take us, and we hope to bring you to both places on August 11th. So put on that cowboy hat and grab a chili burger from Hodad's on your way in the door. It's going to be a hot one here at Popcorn Reef.

-This show is at The Tenth Avenue Arts Center (930 10th Ave, San Diego, CA 92101)

-Doors will open at 4:00 PM, and the films will start on the main stage screen at 5:00 PM

-Soft drinks, along with candy, chips, cookies, and crackers will be available for purchase during the show. Feel free to bring in outside food and drink. Hodad's and Pokez are within a block of the venue and are both great options.

-If you are visibly intoxicated or under the influence of drugs, we cannot allow you into the venue. Thanks for your understanding.

-There will be no delivery of tickets via shipping or email - we'll simply have your name on the list at the door (plus however many tickets you buy). Please bring your ID for verification purposes to check in. We can check in partial parties too, so if you're buying for multiple people and you're arriving at different times, don't worry about it.
