SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT PART 2 director/writer/editor Lee Harry will be joining us live in person to discuss the film after the screening

Join us back at our favorite "traditional movie theater," Regal Mira Mesa, for a new wave of what we hope to be many, future Popcorn Reef events!

Show at 7 PM, Q&A to follow the film

This show is at The Regal Mira Mesa (10733 Westview Parkway) on Screen 10 ("The Colosseum"), please present your ticket upon entry to the Regal staff as you would for a regular film.

It’s been dubbed one of the most notorious sequels of all time. It was banned in the UK for God knows what reason back in 1987, and the ban wasn’t technically lifted until 2020. It’s one of the most uniquely structured examples of cinematic “cash grab” ballyhoo in film history. And it’s also pretty damn cool.

On December 4th, join us at the Regal Mira Mesa for a holiday-themed evening at the movies that you’ll never forget, as we welcome director/writer/editor Lee Harry to Popcorn Reef to discuss his Christmas cult classic, SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT PART 2.

In SNDN2, it’s been a few years since good ol’ Billy wreacked havoc as an axe-wielding mass murderer suffering from PTSD after a criminal dressed in a Santa suit killed his family when he was a child. But guess who else witnessed the murders? His little brother Ricky, who’s all grown up now, and is ready to dish out some trauma-fueled punishment of his own to all the folks left on the Naughty list.

Never saw the original SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT? No problem. Due to budget concerns, the producers of the sequel decided to turn the first act here into a bit of an extended recap of Part One. You’ll see pretty much every major plot point from the first film play out in flashbacks, before the original story with Ricky in Part 2 truly begins at about the 30 minute mark. Does that make the film feel like a rip-off at times? Maybe it did back in 1987 when the movie was first released. To us, the first segment has its own nostalgic charm to it, and it’s also an interesting study to see how low-budget filmmakers leveraged what they had to create a narrative in a non-conventional way.

Much has been said of SNDN2 over the years, and it’s garnered a reputation as quite the controversial sequel. We enjoy it straightforwardly for its creative kills, its sarcastic one liners, and its retro late 80s vibe. We also do know one thing. It’s going to absolutely slay with a giant crowd at the Regal Mira Mesa, where we’re taking over the massive Colosseum theater for the evening to present the film on the biggest screen it’s probably ever been projected on in its 37-year history.

Plus, after the film, we’ve got director/writer/producer Lee Harry joining us on stage to talk about how the film came to be, how he was able to structure the narrative with the flashback obligations, and about the cult status the film has developed over the years.

On December 4th, the nightmare is about to begin…again!

Again, tickets are right here, and we are selling tickets exclusively through Regal's system for this event.
