Aside from being a quintessential early 90s vibe flick that retrospectively feels like a fever dream you would have had as a kid and were never quite able to let go of, SGT. KABUKIMAN is also significant in movie history because it laid down several foundations for the modern comic book film, and it did it independently, rawly, and genuinely. There’s really nothing else like it. Between KABUIKIMAN and CITIZEN TOXIE, you’ll find comic book moviemaking at its most pure. If you’ve never seen SGT.
