Troma de la Playa is back at Popcorn Reef this summer, playaz, and we’re doing our biggest shows yet. Another major Troma classic we’ve been obsessed with forever is Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz's 1990 masterpiece, SGT. KABUKIMAN N.Y.P.D. So we asked Lloyd to join us at our favorite movie theater, Regal Mira Mesa, for a second time, and the result will be an evening you’ll never forget.
Aside from being a quintessential early 90s vibe flick that retrospectively feels like a fever dream you would have had as a kid and were never quite able to let go of, SGT. KABUKIMAN is also significant in movie history because it laid down several foundations for the modern comic book film, and it did it independently, rawly, and genuinely. There’s really nothing else like it. Between KABUIKIMAN and CITIZEN TOXIE, you’ll find comic book moviemaking at its most pure, and that’s exactly what we’re going to dive into with Lloyd when we sit down with him live for an in-depth post film Q&A.
