You might have been to a horror marathon before. You might have even been to one of our horror marathons. But we bet you’ve never been to a marathon on reclining seats like this.
It’s Mid-June, and it’s time to celebrate. Although our school-going days are long over, this time of the year is always an indicator to us that full celebration season is underway.
We’ve been wanting to do a summer-themed horror marathon since Popcorn Reef was incepted, but we’ve been waiting for the right time. Well, now that we’re doing shows at our favorite movie theater, Regal Mira Mesa, and they’ve got a glorious new reclining seat set up, the time is now.
Join us on June 18th to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year. School’s Out for Summer, and we’re bringing you the ultimate cinematic sleepover event that, if you’re like us, you’ve been dreaming about for your whole life.
On the agenda, we will be showing...
- THREE features for the evening
- All THREE films are from the 1980s
- They’re all from the horror genre
- They’ll all have a summer theme to them
- AND…
- You’re not gonna get to find out WHAT they are UNTIL we screen them.
That’s right. We’re programming this sleepover in secret. Rest assured, we’ve picked some of the gnarliest and most nostalgia-laden flicks in the history of cinema for this, but yeah, you’re gonna have to go in blind for this one.
“But this is going on too late, and I might need to go to sleep before it’s over.” No problem. The new seats are Regal Mira Mesa are the most comfortable recliners we’ve ever experienced. They recline fully, so you can literally just take a nap in the middle of the program if you need a little time off. We also strongly encourage (in fact, we’re almost requiring) that you come dressed in your favorite PJs, and bring some blankets so you can really get cozy.
On June 18th, we’re hosting our biggest marathon yet. Of course it had to be a summer thing - we’re Popcorn Reef!

-Show will start at 7:00 PM sharp and run unil approximately 12 AM.
-No, it's not an "overnight" sleepover. You'll be out by approximately midnight.
-Feel free to leave early. Feel free to come late. It's a casual thing. Just make sure you check in with the folks up front at Regal and that they scan your ticket when you enter.
-Regal has a full kitchen with some amazing "real food" options in addition to the standard movie theater concessions. Thery also have wine and beer available for sale. Please take advantage of this - we will have breaks where trailers and old school snipes will be playing between the films, so you won't miss a thing.
-Please bring blankets, pillows, and whatever else you want to make this the most comfortable movie theater marathon you've ever experienced.
