On September 10th, we’re back on the luxury recliners at Regal Mira Mesa, giving you a one-night opportunity to see one of the icons of film history, Sylvester Stallone, in his first starring role on the big screen, in a film that IndieWire recently called, “one of the great unsung independent films of its era, a movie filled with electrifying New York location shooting, political urgency, and sophisticated moral inquiry.” Join us as we bring you the San Diego premiere of REBEL: THE DIRECTOR’S CUT, and we welcome director/writer/producer Robert Schnitzer live in person for a Q&A after the flick.

What is REBEL, and why haven’t you seen this before? Back in 1973, Robert helmed the film in NYC on a shoestring budget, and he cast a then-completely-unknown 24-year-old Sylvester Stallone as the lead. “He was completely unique,” Schnitzer told IndieWire. “They said, ‘Do not hire him. You can’t understand the way he speaks!'” But Robert trusted his instincts, and the result is a fascinating performance from the future superstar.

After the film was completed, it was only released sporadically over the next 50 years. But when Robert recently got the rights back to the film, he remastered it in 4K and made some edits to it, finally tweaking it to his full satisfaction. This Director’s Cut is what we’re going to bring you on September 10th, and Robert will be joining us after the film to share the incredible story of how the film came to fruition. Get your questions ready as well, folks! This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for you to learn how REBEL made it back into the zeitgeist half a century later, why it’s more relevant now than it ever was before, and, of course, to get an inside peek into the early years of one of the biggest movie stars of all time.

REBEL: THE DIRECTOR'S CUT Synopsis:

Sylvester Stallone is torn between love and violence as Jerry Savage, a young anti-war activist, in his first starring role in the 1973 thriller REBEL. A member of a radical terror cell tasked with destroying the headquarters of a Vietnam War defense firm, Savage flees New York City for a rural commune to be with the woman he loves. But as the FBI closes in, his decision could cost him everything.
