Can you believe we’re entering our fourth season of Popcorn Reef? It’s been a wild ride so far, San Diego. And hold on tight, because it’s gonna get even crazier for Year Four.
We decided to celebrate our anniversary with you in the grandest way possible this year, and we think this show checks all of the boxes. Should we screen one of our personal favorite movies of all time? Check. Should we host one of the coolest directors of the 80s live in person to come celebrate with us? Check. And should we do this at our personal favorite movie theater of all time (Regal Mira Mesa)? Check, check.
On January 28th, join us for what might be our most wall-to-wall insane movie party yet as we bring NINJA III: THE DOMINATION back to the big screen on the luxury recliners at Regal Mira Mesa, with legendary director Sam Firstenberg (AMERICAN NINJA, BREAKIN 2: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO) back for his second appearance at Popcorn Reef, live in person.
What’s there to be said about NINJA III that you don’t know already? It’s one of the most unabashedly fun movies of the 80s, and it’s also impossible to classify. Is it a possession horror film? Is it a ninja/martial arts action extravaganza? Is it an aerobics-themed dance flick? Let’s just say it’s all of those things, and more. Maybe it’s best to to say it like this. It’s a CANNON FILM, and it might be the most Cannon-ed out Cannon film of all time. Everything that Sam, Golan, and Globus did to create some of the most lavishly entertaining films of all time is on full display in NINJA III, and that’s what makes it so wonderful.
